School holidays by country

Where a country publishes school-break dates centrally, they are here: exact dates for every break, region by region where they differ — German federal states, Swiss cantons, French zones — and a free printable calendar that shades them.

Countries with official dates

Each page lists the breaks for one year, with quick answers on the summer holidays and the longest break. Ministries publish year by year, which is why the furthest year differs by country — the German and Swiss calendars already reach 2030.

Dates last checked against the official publications on 2026-08-27. The data covers public schools; individual schools can add their own in-service days.

Where dates are set below national level, each region has its own page too — one for every German federal state, Swiss canton, French région, Dutch region, Austrian federal state and Czech, Slovak or Polish region that publishes its own dates. Those pages say where the region sits in the stagger, not only what its dates are.

Where are the US, the UK, Canada and Australia?

Their school breaks are not set nationally: school districts in the United States and Canada, local authorities and academy trusts in the United Kingdom, state education departments in Australia. A single country-wide table would be invented, so instead these pages explain how each system works and what to print:

Print a calendar with the breaks shaded

The calendar maker has a School breaks setting: pick the country under Holidays, switch the layer on, choose your region, and the calendar shades every break on top of the public holidays, moon phases and week numbers you can already show. The PDF is free, with no watermark and no sign-up. The school-year calendar puts August to July on one page for planning a full school year.
