Business days calculator
Count the working days between two dates — weekdays with that country’s public holidays actually subtracted, not just Monday-to-Friday arithmetic.
Business days between two dates
Business days, weekdays and calendar days
Three counts answer three different questions, and using the wrong one is how delivery estimates slip. Calendar days count everything. Weekdays count Monday to Friday. Business days are weekdays minus the public holidays that land on one — the days an office is actually open.
Between 20 December and 5 January there are 16 calendar days, about 12 weekdays, and in most countries only 8 or 9 business days. A contract that says "within 10 business days" means something very different over Christmas than it does in March.
Which holidays are subtracted
Nationwide public holidays only, from the same data the calendars on this site print. Regional holidays are left in the count on purpose: a holiday observed in one state does not close offices in the rest of the country, and subtracting it everywhere would understate the working days for most people.
Where a country substitutes a weekday because the holiday fell at a weekend, the substitute is the date subtracted — that is the day the office is closed. What this does not model is the yearly decree by which some governments shuffle rest days around the calendar; Russia is the clearest case, and its pages say so.
Counting from today or to a deadline
To answer "what date is 10 business days from now", set the start to today and move the end date until the working-day count reads 10. The count updates as you go, so the date you land on is the answer.
Questions
Are business days and working days the same thing?
Yes — the two names describe the same count: weekdays that are not public holidays. British and Australian usage tends to "working days", American usage to "business days".
Does the count include the start and end date?
By default the count is exclusive: it counts the days from the start date up to but not including the end date, so Monday to Friday is 4. Tick "count the last day too" for inclusive counting, which gives 5.
Are Saturdays ever counted as business days?
No. The count treats Saturday and Sunday as non-working everywhere. In countries with a Friday–Saturday weekend the weekday count will not match local practice.
