Why the working-day count matters more than the total
A deadline 30 days away is around 21 weekdays, and fewer once public holidays are taken out. If the countdown is for a piece of work rather than an event, the working-day figure is the honest one — pick a country and the calculator subtracts its nationwide holidays.
Counting to a holiday
Fixed-date holidays are easy to count to: Christmas is always 25 December, New Year’s Day always 1 January. Moving holidays are not — Easter shifts by more than a month between years, and Thanksgiving is a weekday rule, not a date. The country pages on this site list the resolved dates for each year, so a countdown to a moving holiday starts from the right day.

Does the countdown include today?
By default no: counting from today to tomorrow gives 1 day. Tick "count the last day too" to include both ends, which is how people usually count the days of a trip.
Does the count update on its own?
It is calculated when you open the page and whenever you change a date, using your device’s clock. Reload it the next day and the count moves with the date.
