- Counts use nationwide holidays only — regional ones (a state day in the US, a cantonal day in Switzerland) reduce the total further where they apply.
- Weekends are Saturday and Sunday. Half-day customs — a Christmas Eve afternoon, a Bayram eve — are not subtracted.
Which holidays are subtracted
The 11 nationwide holidays falling on weekdays come from the same dataset as the Denmark public holidays 2026 page, which lists each one with the weekday it lands on — and how Denmark's holiday system works:
- Denmark abolished Great Prayer Day (Store Bededag) from 2024 — older printed calendars still show it on the fourth Friday after Easter, and this data correctly does not.
- The calendar is otherwise strongly tied to the church year: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, both Easter days, Ascension and Whit Monday are all public holidays.
- Constitution Day on 5 June is not a full statutory holiday — many workplaces close from noon by agreement, but that is custom, not law.
