- Iceland keeps holidays nobody else has: the First Day of Summer, a Thursday in late April from the Old Icelandic calendar, and Commerce Day on the first Monday of August.
- The Christian calendar contributes Maundy Thursday through Whit Monday, so spring is dense with days off.
- There is no general substitution for weekend holidays.
