- Italy’s national holidays include each city’s patron saint — Rome closes for Saints Peter and Paul on 29 June, Milan for Sant’Ambrogio on 7 December — shown here as regional rows.
- There is no substitution: a holiday falling at a weekend is lost that year.
- A holiday landing on a Tuesday or Thursday produces the ponte, the Italian bridge weekend; the long-weekend table below shows where they fall.
